LOCATION - The park is on a 2,400-foot mountain plateau encircling Adams Reservoir, surrounded by the Green Mountain National Forest. It's 10 miles east of Bennington on Vermont 9.


ACTIVITIES - Camp in one of 103 campsites with 20 lean-tos and a trailer dump station open from mid-May through Columbus Day. Go boating with rentals available and trout fishing in Adams Reservoir. No motors are permitted. Hike park trails including a 2.7-mile trail around the lake.


During the winter, go snowmobiling or ski Prospect Mountain Ski Area.


Tour Bennington Museum located on West Main Street in downtown Bennington, one mile west of the intersection of Vermont 7 and 9. It has the largest public collection of paintings by Grandma Moses and the schoolhouse she attended as a child. You'll also see over 5,000 examples of pressed and free-blown glass and pottery from the late 1700-1800s. For information, call 802-447-1571.


Pick up a map from the Chamber of Commerce on Veterans Memorial Drive and take a walking tour of historic Bennington. Bennington has three covered bridges. Silk Road and Papermill Village bridges are off Vermont 67A and Bert Henry Bridge is on Murphy Road.


Stop by Bennington Battle Monument, located Vi mile west of Vermont 9 and U.S. 7. When finished in 1891, it was the tallest battle monument in the world.
