WELLESLEY ISLAND STATE PARK
LOCATION - The park is 4 miles west of Alexandria Bay via Thousand Islands Bridge linking the U.S. to Canada. From New York 81, take Exit 51.
ACTIVITIES - Camp in the 430-site campground, which has 74 sites with electrical hookups, 57 with full hookups, and a camp store. Hike to one of 12 carry-in sites or stay in one of 10 cabins.
Tour Minna Anthony Common Nature Center and hike along 10 miles of trails. For a tee-off time on the nine-hole golf course, call 315-482-9622.
Swim and go boating from the marina or launch a boat from four other sites. Enjoy fishing in nationally known St. Lawrence River for pike, muskellunge, and bass.
During the winter, go cross-country skiing and ice fishing.
Take a boat cruise aboard the Empire with a stop to tour Boldt Castle, a 120 -room replica of a Rhineland castle. For information, call 315-482-9511 or 1-800-542-2628.
Wellesley Island State Park also operates Waterson Point State Park, a boat-only park surrounded by Wellesley Island. Visitors go to fish for pike, muskellunge, and black bass in nearby Lost Channel.
DeWolf Point State Park, located on Lake of the Isles off Cross Island Road, is also operated by Wellesley. It has 14 cabins, 12 campsites, and a boat launch into Lake of the Isles.
