LOCATION - The park is south of Saratoga Springs.

FEATURES - Because of its classical architecture, the spa is listed as a National Historic Landmark. Mineral waters originate in a layer of limestone 100-1,000 feet below the surface and emerge through the Saratoga fault.


ACTIVITIES - Saratoga Spa has walking paths along the stream and through a hemlock forest. Runners have a 5- and 10-kilometer certified course where running events are held spring and fall. Several mineral springs are located near the picnic area.


Roosevelt Spa has mineral waters where you can get a massage and take a mineral bath. For reservations, call 518-584-2011. Lincoln Baths also offer mineral baths and massages in July and August. For reservations, call 518-583-2880.


Stay in Gideon Putnam Hotel. For reservations, call 518-584-3000. Dine in the Park Place Restaurant. Play eighteen holes of golf on one of the two championship golf courses. Call 518-584-2008 for a tee-off time. Go swimming in one of the two pools, play tennis, and have a picnic.


Attend a performance in the Saratoga Performing Arts Center from June-August. The Spa Little Theatre and National Museum of Dance provides performances and exhibits year-round. Call 518-584-9330 for information.


Saratoga National Historic Park's entrances are 30 miles north of Albany on U.S. 4 and New York 32. Stop by the visitor center to get a map of the Saratoga Battlefield and learn details of the Campaign of 1777. Drive a 91/2-mile route and walk self-guided paths. Tour the Philip Schuyler House, country home of General Philip Schuyler.


Saratoga Lake is one of northeastern New Yorkers' favorite bass fishing holes. During the winter, 4.2-mile Wilkinson Trail is open for cross-country skiing. For additional park information, call 518-664-9821.


A winter festival in February features free horse-drawn sleigh rides, dog cart rides, and snow sculptures. Cross-country ski along the golf course or on 20 kilometers of groomed trails. Ice skate on the Victoria Mall near the pool complex. A warming hut is available.


In Saratoga Springs, tour the National Museum of Dance, the only museum of its kind in the nation. See costumes celebrating the lives and works of great contributors to American professional dance. It's open May-October from Tuesday-Sunday. For information, call 518-584-2225.


Tour President Grant's cottage, 8 miles north of Saratoga Springs off New York 9. It's open from Memorial through Labor Day on Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00-4:00. For information, call 518-587-8277.


Attend Saratoga polo matches on Seaward Street on Tuesdays, Friday-Sunday in August. For information, call 518-584-8108. Horse racing occurs year-round at Saratoga Harness Raceway at Crescent Avenue and Jefferson in Saratoga Springs, February-November. Incoming pilots can land at Saratoga County Airport 3 miles southwest of town. Rental cars are available.
