Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site
In western New Hampshire, in Cornish
This renowned artist's retreat in the New Hampshire hills was the home and studio of Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907), one of Americas most popular and talented sculptors. Centered on Saint-Gaudens' 18th-century Federal-style house, "Aspet," combines secluded studios, galleries, and gardens where the artist's works are on display. A stable building houses a collection of antique carriages. The site was authorized in 1964 and established in 1977.
WHAT TO SEE & DO
Hiking, picnicking, touring gardens, house, and galleries, viewing orientation video. Facilities: Information booth, movie, guided and self-guided tours, hiking trails. Picnic tables. Programs & Events: Interpretive tours of house, art exhibits. Sunday concert series (July-mid-Aug.). Tips & Hints: Walking tours are one hour. Turning around is difficult for large RVs towing vehicles. Busiest July and Aug., least crowded May and June.

FEES, PERMITS & REGULATIONS
Entrance fee: $5 adults, free ages 16 and under. No snowmobiles or off-road vehicles. Buildings and grounds open late May-Oct., daily 9-4:30; grounds also open Nov.-late May, daily 8-dark.
HOW TO GET THERE
9 mi north of Claremont via Rte. 12A; 2 mi from Windsor, VT via I-91 to Exit 8 or 9; or via 1-89 to Exit 20, heading 12 mi south. Closest airports: Lebanon, NH (11 mi), NH (80 mi), and Windsor Locks, CT (125 mi).
