LOCATION - The park is on the west end of Fire Island on the Atlantic Ocean. Fire Island stretches 32 miles from Robert Moses State Park on the west to Smith Point Park on the east and is accessible via the Robert Moses Causeway from Captree State Park. It's 2 miles north of New York 37 on Barn-hart Island in the St. Lawrence River and is 3 miles north of Massena.


FEATURES - Fire Island's barrier island separates the Atlantic Ocean from the Great South Bay. The park overlooks several lock operations and provides access to the Moses-Saunders Power Dam.


ACTIVITIES - Visitors can play pitch and putt-putt golf, go boating with rentals available, swimming in the ocean, and pan fishing in Lake St. Lawrence. Hike out to the Fire Island Lighthouse at the east end of the park. The keeper's quarters house a museum, and tours up the 192-step tower are offered one day a week June-August with reservations required. Contact the tourist bureau at 516-563-8448.


Camp in the 169-site campground, 28 offering electrical hookups, with a trailer dump station and food. You can also stay in one of 15 cabins.


Tour the visitor center at the Moses-Saunders Power Dam and watch their orientation film.


Incoming pilots can land at Massena International-Richards Field Airport 2 miles east of Massena. Rental cars are available.
