LOCATION - The park is located on top of 968-foot Mount Philo, 14 miles south of Burlington off U.S. 7, then one mile east on a local road. From


Vergennes, go north one mile on Vermont 22A, 6 miles north on U.S. 7, and one mile east on the town road. Because of its steep entrance and camp roads, the area is not recommended for trailer use.


FEATURES - Mount Philo State Park overlooks the Lake Champlain Valley and Adirondack Mountains in New York.


ACTIVITIES - Camp in one of 16 sites, including 4 lean-tos and a dump station, open from mid-May through Columbus Day. Go fishing in Ottauquechee River and hike scenic gorge trails. Swimming is available at Kingsland Bay State Park, 6 miles away. You can go boating, fishing, and sailing in nearby Lake Champlain.


Tour Basketville at 152 Cherry Street in Burlington to see a large selection of handmade baskets. It's open year-round. For information, call 802-387-5509.


Take a ferry ride across Lake Champlain to Grand Isle, Vermont, or to Pittsburgh, New York. For times, call 802-864-9804. You can also ride aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen, a replica of a vintage sternwheeler on Lake Champlain. It leaves from Perkins Pier in Burlington. Attend the Vermont Mozart Festival held from mid-July through early August in the University's Royall Tyler Theater. In early June-July, attend the Lake Champlain Fishing Derby, Jazz Festival, and a concert by the Vermont Symphony on July 4. Free concerts are given in Battery Park during the summer months.
