LOCATION - The park is near Waterbury. From 1-89, Exit 10, go Vi mile south on Vermont 100 and another IV2 miles west on U.S. 2. Continue 3Vi miles north on Little River Road.


ACTIVITIES - Little River State Park's campground is central Vermont's largest. You can stay in one of 101 campsites, including 20 lean-tos and a trailer dump station. It's open from mid-May through Columbus Day. Rent a boat to go boating from the ramp in Waterbury Reservoir and go swimming from the beach. Hike marked nature trails or go to Mount Mansfield State Forest and hike up 4,393-foot Mount Mansfield. The state forest also has 38 campsites, including 14 lean-tos in Smugglers Notch, boating, fishing, swimming, and cabins.


Waterbury Center, south of Waterbury Center Village and V* mile off Vermont 100, has additional swimming, boating from the ramp, and picnicking. Tour Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory near Waterbury.


Drive up the toll road to the summit of Mount Mansfield. It begins 5 miles northwest of Stowe from Vermont 108. You can also reach the summit via the Stowe Gondola that begins 7.5 miles northwest of Stowe on Vermont 108. For information, call 802-253-7311.


Bicyclists and hikers have access to Stowe's 5-mile recreational path that runs along a stream towards Mount Mansfield. Hikers and cyclists can overnight at Vermont State Ski Dorm and Hostel located at the foot of Mount Mansfield. For information, call 802-253-4010.


Near Barre in Graniteville, 20 miles from the park, tour Rock of Ages, one of the largest granite plants in the world. Shuttle tours are offered from June 1-October 15, weather permitting. For information call 802-476-3115.
