LOCATION - The lake is 12 miles southeast of Hudson. It's accessible from the Taconic State Parkway, one mile south of the New York 82 Interchange.


ACTIVITIES - Go hiking and camp in the campground from mid-May through the end of October or stay in one of the 43 cabins or cottages. Enjoy swimming, boating with rentals available, and fishing for bass and norlings. Snacks are available. The second Sunday after Labor Day attend the annual Columbia County Day fishing derby. During the winter, go ice fishing, skating, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.


In Kinderhook, tour Martin Van Buren National Historical Site on New York 9H. The house was built in 1797 and is open from May-October. For information, call 518-758-9689.


Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, circa 1874, is on the Hudson River off South Bay and is best seen from Promenade Hill Park on Front Street in Hudson.


Clermont State Historic Site on New York 9G is a 500-acre estate that was home to seven generations of the Livingston family. Enjoy beautiful views of the Hudson River and Catskills, 4 miles of hiking trails, and picnic facilities. It's open for guided tours from April-October on Wednesday-Sunday. Shaker Museum on Shaker Museum Road off New York 13, Old Chatham, features exhibitions of Shaker industries spanning over 200 years. Their annual antique festival is the first Saturday in August. For information, call 518-794-9100.


Olana State Historic Site is off New York 9G, one mile south of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge in Greenport, south of Hudson. The nineteenth-century home of landscape painter Frederic Edwin Church has guided tours from April-October, but is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Hike extensive grounds' trails with spectacular views of the Hudson Valley. Call 518-828-0135 for a schedule of special events.


Incoming pilots can land at Columbia County Airport, located 4 miles northeast of Hudson. Rental cars are available.
