Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site
In southeastern New York, in Hyde Park
Springwood was the birthplace and lifetime residence of the 32nd president. The gravesites of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt are in the Rose Garden. Also on site is the FDR Presidential Library and Museum. Tours to Top Cottage, built in 1938, are available from here. The site was designated on January 15, 1944.
WHAT TO SEE & DO
Touring home and adjacent library and museum, viewing film. Facilities: Visitor center, introductory film, furnished home, memorial Rose Garden, icehouse, stables, grounds, trails. Bookstore, cafe. Programs & Events: Ranger-led tours of house, self-guided tours of grounds and museum. Driving tour to Top Cottage (May-Oct., fee). Tips & Hints: Allow one to two hours to see house and grounds, one to two more hours to see adjoining FDR Presidential Library and Museum, and two hours for Top Cottage tour and tour of Hyde Park. Busiest Aug. and Oct., least crowded Jan. and Feb.

FEES & HOURS
Grounds and garden: free. FDR Presidential Library and Museum (including tour): $14 adults, free ages 16 and under; $22 for combination pass to FDR site and either Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site, Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic sites (see separate listings for both), or Top Cottage tour. Visitor center open daily 9-5. Grounds open daily 7-sunset. Top Cottage open May-Oct., Thurs.-Mon. by guided tour only.
HOW TO GET THERE
The site is on U.S. 9 in Hyde Park, just north of Poughkeepsie and two hours north of New York City. Closest airport: Newburgh (45 mi).
