ELLACOYA STATE BEACH
LOCATION - The beach is on the southwest shore of Lake Winnipesaukee.
FEATURES - Lake Winnipesaukee is the state's largest inland lake with a shoreline of 283 miles. It's also the sixth largest natural lake located entirely in the U.S. and has 274 habitable islands. Winnipesaukee is an Indian term meaning "smile of the great spirit" or "beautiful water in high place."
ACTIVITIES - Camp in the 38-site campground with full hookups from May-October. Go swimming from the 600-foot-long beach and bring along a picnic. Go fishing and boating and enjoy good views of the Ossipee/Sandwich Mountains. Take a cruise on the lake aboard M/S Mount Washington. For information, call 603-366-5531.
For additional camping, go to Gunstock County Recreation Area on New Hampshire 11A in Gilford. You can also swim in the Olympic-sized swimmin pool, go fishing, paddle boating, and horseback riding. Special events offered year-round include an annual March Maple Sugar Festival and Fall Oktoberfest

Visit nearby Daniel Webster Birthplace Historic Site off New Hampshire 127 one mile south of Franklin. Restored in 1913, it contains antique furnishings and mementos. For information, call 603-934-5057.
Incoming pilots can land at Laconia Municipal Airport 3 miles north of town. Rental cars are available.
