CROWN POINT STATE HISTORIC SITE
LOCATION - Crown Point is by the Lake Champlain Bridge, 4 miles east of New York 9N and 22.
FEATURES - The ruins of two forts are located above Lake Champlain. Fort St. Frederic was begun in 1734 by the French, but was captured by the British 25 years later during the French and Indian War. The British then constructed one of the largest fortifications in colonial America, His Majesty's Fort of Crown Point. This fort was captured by the Americans in 1775.
ACTIVITIES - Take a self-guided tour of the grounds and fort ruins year-round. Tour the visitor center's exhibits and watch their audio-visual show. The fort is open June-October on Wednesday-Sunday, including Independence Day and Labor Day. The rest of the year, it's open by appointment only.
