COLT STATE PARK
LOCATION - The park is 2 miles west of Bristol on the east side of Narragansett Bay.
ACTIVITIES - Take a picturesque 3-mile drive along the shoreline of the former Colt family estate. Go saltwater fishing. The park is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Attend evening summer concerts Wednesdays by the stone barn. Attend summer nature programs and go hiking, boating, and fishing. Equestrians can ride 2 miles of trails and bicyclists have access to a 3.2-mile bike path. Picnic at one of 300 picnic tables. Concessions are available.
Attend church services at Colt State Park Chapel open year-round.
Tour Coggeshall Farm Museum on Rhode Island 114 with its eighteenth-century working farm and blacksmith's shop. Attend summer weekend programs. For information, call 401-253-9062.
In Bristol, tour Blithewold Gardens and Arboretum at 101 Ferry Road, Rhode Island 114, to see 33 acres of landscaped grounds and gardens bordering Bristol Harbor. The mansion is open May-October from 10:00-4:00, but closed Mondays. For information on tours and summer concerts, call 401-253-8714.
Bristol hosts a Fourth of July parade.
Bicyclists can ride from Bristol to Providence along an abandoned railroad line. Much of the 14.5-mile paved bikepath passes along or near the shoreline of Narragansett Bay. Access is available from the state park. Contact 401-277-2601 or 1-800 556-2484 for information.
