BLACKSTONE RIVER AND CANAL HERITAGE STATE PARK
LOCATION - The state park is on East Hartford Avenue in Uxbridge.
FEATURES - The park is part of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.
ACTIVITIES - Stop at Slater Mill Historic Site in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Slater Mill was built on the banks of the Blackstone River where it could utilize water power to run its spinning operation.
Walk along sections of the Blackstone Canal and towpath located in Uxbridge and in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Hike park trails up Goad Hill and to King Philip's Rock. Go fishing, enjoy a picnic, and go canoeing along the canal. Raft white water in the Blackstone River Gorge. In the winter, go cross-country skiing along the towpath.
Additional hiking is available along trails in Sutton at Purgatory Chasm State Reservation on Purgatory Road. Obtain a permit to go climbing on the chasm walls. For information, call 508-234-3733.
