BATTLESHIP COVE HERITAGE STATE PARK
LOCATION - The park is off 1-95 in Fall River.
FEATURES - Battleship Cove is the site of the world's leading textile manufacturer.
ACTIVITIES - Watch the multimedia presentation, "The Fabric of Fall River." Go on board the World War II battleship USS Massachusetts, attack submarine USS Lionfish, destroyer Joseph P Kennedy, Jr., and a wooden PT boat.
Tour the Marine Museum at 70 Water and learn about the Old Fall River line that ferried wealthy New York City passengers 70 years ago. View the Titanic exhibit.
The Old Colony and Fall River Railroad Museum at Battleship Cove at the corner of Central and Water streets traces the development of both the railroad industry and trolley service. Watch daily railroad movies. For information, call 508-674-9340. Special events include an annual train show the third weekend in January and in mid-summer the Fall River Celebrates America where tall ships and fireworks are featured.
The Fall River Historical Society offers tours of an old mansion at 451 Rock Street. Its 16 Victorian period rooms include exhibits on the mills and mill
workers' lives and contain artifacts from the Lizzie Borden ax-murder case. It's closed Mondays, holidays, and January-February. For information, call 508-679-1071.
Take a ride aboard the Fall River Carousel in Battleship Cove, one of the few authentic merry-go-rounds still in existence.
