Sagamore Hill National Historical Site
On Long Island, New York, near Oyster Bay
Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt (1887-1919), 26th president of the United States from 1901 to 1909. The rambling 23-room, Queen Anne-style house reflects the many roles this man played: cowboy, conservationist, big-game hunter, scientist, politician, naval strategist, orator, soldier, family man, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Also on the 83-acre site are the outbuildings of the Sagamore Hill Farm and Old Orchard Museum, the former home of Roosevelt's son, Congressional Medal of Honor winner Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. The site was authorized in 1962.
