MOLLY STARK STATE PARK
LOCATION - Molly Stark State Park is 15 miles west of Brattleboro off Vermont 9. From Brattleboro, take Exit 2 from 1-91. Continue west 15 miles on Vermont 9. The park is also 3 miles east of Wilmington on Vermont 9.
FEATURES - The park is named for the wife of General John Stark of the Revolutionary War. In 1777, Molly, following her husband's request, rode on horseback to alert 200 men to assist her husband in his fight against the British. Following the Battle of Bennington, General John Stark rode back home over the trail, now called Molly Stark Trail, bringing along one of six brass cannon captured from the British.
ACTIVITIES - Camp in one of 34 campsites, including 10 lean-tos and a disposal station, open from mid-May through Columbus Day. Hike to the summit of 2,415-foot Mount Olga where a fire tower provides a panoramic view of southern Vermont. The 1.4-mile-long trail begins near the park entrance. Enjoy a picnic in the large open shelter. Come in the fall when the fall foliage peaks.
