LOCATION - The park is in Schoharie Valley on New York 30, 20 miles south of 1-88. It's also 15 miles south of Middleburgh.

 

FEATURES - Mine Kill was opened in 1973 when adjacent New York Power Authority's Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Project was begun. The park overlooks the storage project's lower reservoir.

 

ACTIVITIES - Picnic overlooking the reservoir and camp in the campground. Go boating, water-skiing, and fishing for trout, bass, walleye, carp, and panfish in Mine Kill Reservoir. Go boating from the launch.

 

Go swimming in the Olympic-sized pool. Swimming is not permitted in the reservoir. An overlook on the south end of the lake provides views of Mine Kill Falls.

 

Special events and performances are presented in the park through the summer. Hike an extensive trail network.

 

During the winter, go snowmobiling, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, and sledding.

 

A one-mile-long hiking trail leads to New York Power Authority's Lansing Manor complex, nineteenth-century estate of Supreme Court Justice John Lansing. Lansing Manor is open to tour from Memorial Day through Columbus Day except Tuesdays. For information, call 518-827-6121.

 

The Old Blenheim covered bridge in North Blenheim, circa 1855, is the United States' longest single-span covered bridge and one of six remaining double-tunnel bridges in the U.S.

 

Tour the Blenheim-Gilboa Power Project Visitor Center on New York 30 near North Blenheim. Located in a converted nineteenth-century barn, the center has hands-on displays and a laser video show It's open Monday-Sunday 10:00-5:00. For information, call 1-800-724-0309.
