LAKE SHAFTSBURY STATE PARK
LOCATION - The park is IOV2 miles north of Bennington on U.S. 7A at Shaftsbury.
ACTIVITIES - Wooded group camping is available from mid-May through Labor Day. Go swimming from the beach and boating and fishing in Lake Shaftsbury. Snacks and rental boats are available. Hike the Healing Springs Nature Trail around the lake.
Bennington has three covered bridges. Silk Road and Papermill bridges are off Vermont 67A and Bert Henry Bridge is on Murphy Road.

The Battle of Bennington was fought here in 1777 when the Americans defeated the British. The Bennington Battle Monument is V2 mile west of Vermont 9 and U.S. 7 and, when finished in 1891, was the tallest battle monument in the world.
Bennington Museum on West Main has paintings by Grandma Moses, over 5,000 examples of pressed and free-blown glass and early American furniture. For information, call 802-447-1571.
Arlington, 4 miles from the park, has a Norman Rockwell exhibition. Many of his models came from here. Watch the film on his life and stroll through the artist's works. For information, call 802-375-6423.
In Manchester, 13 miles from the park, tour Hildene where Abraham Lincoln's descendants lived until 1975. Tours go from mid-May through October. Go cross-country skiing in the winter. For information, call 802-362-1788.
