LOCATION - From Jamaica, turn at the inn in the center of the village and continue another Vi mile north on the town road off Vermont 30. It's on a bend of the West River.

ACTIVITIES - Camp in one of the 61 sites, including 18 lean-tos and a disposal station, from early May through Columbus Day. Go canoeing and fishing in West River, and swimming at Salmon Hole, site of a famous Indian massacre in 1776. On spring and fall weekends in late April and late September or early October, water is released from Ball Mountain Dam into the West River heralding the arrival of many kayakers and canoeists.

Hike park trails, including one to Hamilton Falls located upstream on Cobb Brook. The trail along the West River to Ball Mountain Dam follows an old railroad bed used by the Brattleboro Railroad. Attend naturalist programs.

Drive to Hildene, IV2 miles south of Manchester on U.S. 7A to visit the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln. Purchase tickets at the visitor center to tour the house. Cross-country ski the grounds in the winter. For information, call 802-362-1788.

While you're in the area, drive up U.S. 7As toll road on 3,816-foot Mount Equinox. It's the highest peak in the Taconic Range and provides a wonderful view.
