LOCATION - High Point State Park is 8 miles northwest of Sussex on New Jersey 23 and south of Port Jervis, New York.

 

FEATURES - High Point boasts the state's highest point of 1,803 feet and includes the state's first natural area with an almost virgin woodland and cedar swamp.

 

ACTIVITIES - Enjoy hiking one of nine park trails, including the ridge above Kryden Kuser Natural Area and along a section of the Appalachian Trail. Climb to High Point Monument for a panoramic view. Camp in the 50-site campground from April-October or stay in one of the two family cabins.

Tour the visitor center, go fishing for trout and bass, and go swimming in Lake Marcia. Food service is available. Boats with electric motors may be launched at Sawmill Lake and Lake Steenykill.

During the winter, go cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice skating.

Stokes State Forest is southwest of the park. Open year-round, camp in the 77-site campground or stay in one of the 10 cabins. Enjoy boating, fishing, and hiking on 9 miles of Appalachian Trail plus 23 other trails. For information, call 201-948-3820.
