LOCATION - The park is 5 miles north of South Hero off U.S. 2.

 

FEATURES - Grand Isle, also called South Hero, takes its name from the largest island found in Lake Champlain. The Hero Islands were named to commemorate early Vermonters who served in the American Revolution.

 

ACTIVITIES - Camp from mid-May through Columbus Day in one of 155 sites, including 33 lean-tos and a dump station. You can also stay in a waterfront cabin. Groceries are available.

 

Go boating from the ramp with rowboat rentals available and bass fishing in Lake Champlain. Go sailboarding in a designated sailboard area. Practice putting on the putting green, pitch horseshoes in the horseshoe pit, or play volleyball on the sand court. Attend naturalist programs, hike the 3/4-mile nature trail or check your fitness on the 0,3-mile fitness trail.

 

Tour Hyde Log Cabin in Grand Isle, circa 1783, the nation's oldest log cabin still standing in its original condition.
