In northeastern Virginia, near Colonial Beach

 

The park evokes the spirit of the 18th-century tobacco farm where Washington was born and includes a memorial mansion and gardens and the tombs of several generations of Washingtons. The historic buildings, groves of trees, livestock, gardens, rivers, and creeks were the earliest scenes of Washingtons childhood. The site was established on January 23, 1930.

 

WHAT TO SEE & DO

Hiking, picnicking, touring site, viewing film and exhibits, watching wildlife. Facilities: Visitor center, home site, Colonial farm area, burial grounds, trails, beach. Bookstore. Programs & Events: Guided tours with costumed interpreters. George Washington's Birthday (Presidents Day and Feb. 22), Christmas at Pope s Creek. Tips & Hints: Plan one to two hours for the visit. Busiest June and July, least crowded Dec. and Jan.

FEES & HOURS

Entrance fee: $3 adults. Visitor center and monument open daily 9-5.

 

HOW TO GET THERE

On the Potomac River, 38 mi east of Fredericksburg, and accessible via Rte. 3 to Rte. 204. Closest airport: Richmond (75 mi).
