Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania County Battlefields Memorial National Military Park
In eastern Virginia, in Fredericksburg area
One hundred thousand men became Civil War casualties in the four major battles fought in the vicinity of Fredericksburg—Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. The park also includes the historic structures of Chatham, Salem Church, and the "Stonewall" Jackson Shrine and encompasses 9,000 acres, making it the largest military park in the world. The Fredericksburg National Cemetery, with 15,333 interments, 12,746 of them unidentified, is within the park. The park was established in 1927 and transferred to the Park Service in 1933.

Facilities: 2 visitor centers: Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville; 2 exhibit centers (Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House), Chatman, Salem Church, "Stonewall" Jackson Shrine, tour roads, trails. Bookstores. Programs & Events: Guided tours. National Cemetery Luminaria (Memorial Day weekend), Battle of Fredericksburg Commemoration Ceremony (Dec). Tips & Hints: Allow two days to tour all four battlefields. Busiest June and July, least crowded Jan. and Feb.

HOW TO GET THERE
Fredericksburg is 50 mi south of Washington, DC; 50 mi north of Richmond; and 3 mi east of I-95. Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center is at 1013 Lafayette Blvd. in Fredericksburg. Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center is on Rte. 3, 8 mi west of 1-95. Closest airport: Reagan (55 mi), Richmond (55 mi).
