LOCATION - The park is 2 miles north of Hackettstown on Willow Grove-Waterloo Road.

FEATURES - Allamuchy was named for the Delaware Indians whose village was called Allamuchahokkingen, meaning "place within the hills." The name was later shortened to Allamucha.

The park has two sections: Stephens/Saxton Falls and Allamuchy Mountain. Stephens/Saxton Falls is located along the Musconetcong River. At one time, 28 locks were located along the river and the remains of one of them is visible at Saxton Falls.

ACTIVITIES - The park is open from April-October. Camp in the 40-site campground, go trout fishing in the Musconetong River, and hike the trails. Enjoy a picnic in Stephen's section of the park. In the winter, go cross-country skiing and ice fishing.

Take a tour of historic Waterloo Village with many buildings from the 1800s. It's open from April-December, Tuesday-Sunday. The Waterloo Festival for the Arts occurs May-October on weekends when various music and dance programs are presented. For information, call 201-347-4700.
